Is your life wrecked by stress and health issues? Take the necessary steps to overcome stress, increase good health and learn to be happy.

Let’s talk about the issue of stress first.

That’s just it… TALK – Stress has a very powerful influence on your life, here is a suggestion to overcome stress by talking.

Talk to a trusted friend.

Schedule a time to talk and vent your problem. Sometimes there is so much stress bottled up that it begins to affect the way our body works. Give it a voice, letting it out is a good way to de-stress.

Now let’s address a system to reduce the stress.
Use positive affirmations. This doesn’t mean that you go about all day chanting the mantra “om”. This is just where we channel our negative thoughts.

Listen to the way you talk.
Many times we are not aware of our negative feelings until we hear what others hear. If you are not coping well with the stressors in your life then consider the negativity you are carrying around.

It’s your stress and your health.
Is your stress level out of control? How does it affect your health? One way to over come these out of control stress levels is to write. Write your story, if you are a grandmother, write your life history to pass on to the next generation or possibly your own children. This helps with stress and records details your children are not even aware of. Another control is to volunteer. Everywhere we look there are people or animals that need our love and help.

Keeping a stress journal will identify stressors in your life and also patterns.

Go to the gym or set up a special exercise area in your home. Do this regularly, just a few minutes a day in the beginning then increase the amount of time you spend exercising as you feel you can. Relaxing is the goal here, not seeing how many miles you can walk in a certain length of time.

As I’ve stated many times – Happiness is an inside job!
Know that you have the ability to change and adapt to the world around you. Relax your body and mind and be very selective about the things that are allowed to upset you. Be flexible and go with the flow, taking everything personally just builds stress.

Mother’s Day falls on May 9th this year. Do you want to buy or give a gift that is unique and unusual?
Here are some suggestions:

Mother’s Day is a day celebrated around the world, in honor of our Mother’s. Her love is selfless and Mother’s Day is the perfect time to tell her how much she means to you. This is also a day of gratitude toward Mother, tell her how much you appreciate the things she does for you.

One suggestion that I have is to give the gift of your time. I’ve lived lots of years and have many of the day to day items that I need, but I don’t always have the gift of my children’s time.

Instead of buying the usual gift of a pot of flowers or something similar, give her a gift card to one of her favorite stores, now she can spend time deciding what to buy and will always tell everyone that you gave this to her for Mother’s Day.

One of my favorite Mother’s Day gifts is paper. Stationary, gift cards, wrapping paper, especially if it has been brought back from another country. It makes me happy when I know the history of the paper. This gift could also be easy to provide, if you are the one traveling – it packs flat. If you order it from one of the many speciality stores, then you don’t have to fight the traffic.

If you are a jewelry giver try to give your mom a bracelet that she can wear with jeans or pearls. This could be made into a very special gift by having it personalized.

Start early and brainstorm if these are not unique and unusual enough. Show your Mom that she is special to you!

Do anxiety attacks come when you least expect them? Do you worry excessively about everything in your life? How can you overcome this fear?

Here are 3 tips to help you overcome this excessive worrying:

1. Repeat your fear. Repeat this fear to yourself until you begin to relax. Did you notice how the words sounds when you say them many times? It can be stressful to say the least when anxiety becomes our best friend. Without meaning to you can make your family, friends and others in your life anxious to. But, the good news is that you can manage your anxiety.

2. It would be hard to over-exaggerate your fear, especially when you are already anxious. But try it. If you have a fear of going into a store with your house slippers on, try it. Believe me this can be a particularly strong fear, I know because I did it. I felt uncomfortable but soon decided that everyone has or has come close to doing the same thing. The point is that almost no one noticed and I lived through it.

3. Do you over analyze every thing you do? When you attend a party, you had a good time, and when you were home you began to wonder – did I say that just right? I sure hope I didn’t offend her by what I said.
And on and on until you are too anxious to sleep. Leave the past in the past and find ways to learn to manage your anxiety.

We all know that our bodies disconnect at times. It’s often the little thoughts in the back of our minds, that add up to anxiety.

Have the courage to learn and manage your anxiety at the same time. When the fear of anxiety comes up, allow it to play out and say that was in the past and this is a new situation.

Helen Hayes so skillfully states “It is not what we see and touch or that which others do for us which makes us happy: It is that which we think and feel and do, first for the other fellow and then for ourselves.”

There are many senior women out there who are living life as happy productive women. They are getting their self esteem level just right so they have a sense of self worth that is not dependent on individual events or achievements.

A healthy level of self esteem is linked to respect for ourselves but most importantly, having respect for others.

If our self esteem is too low, we see ourselves as less valuable than those around us. When we are feeling like this, depressed and unhappy, it’s harder to find ways to improve our situations. Some of the ways we let ourselves become unhappy might be that retirement plans aren’t proceeding as we thought they would. One of the things I wanted from retirement was to travel. But, my partner had other thoughts, it’s when this kind of situation comes up that I have to remember to find other activities that bring me happiness and usually it’s to help someone with their needs.

Our own health or the health of others in our lives may also play a role in our happiness. Role reversal is a hard role to play and we assess ourselves by how our family and friends treat us. But, we need to realize that our self esteem is something that we can take care of ourselves.

Learn to recognize when your self esteem is getting low, or off balance and give yourself a boost. It’s hard to stay low when we are volunteering for civic organizations or hospitals or any number of organizations that always need our help.

Positive thinking and positive attitude play a large role in senior women’s lives. A great benefit to positive thinking is not only does it benefit our lives but the lives of those around us.

Some seem to have too much self esteem and act as if they are the only folks in town. They act in selfish and demanding ways. Positive thinking will clear the way for this person to settle down and see that they need to be less demanding.

With a healthy level of self esteem we are more likely to be calm, have a rational thought process and better behavior.

Whether you are nearing retirement or have recently retired, your appearance is still very important.

I’d like to share Roberto Sedycias’s ” 8 Face Make up tips to Enhance Your Beauty.”  These are easy and only take a few minutes to apply.  Leaving time to enjoy the wonderful world of a senior woman.

Face makeup can be used to highlight one`s good features and also to camouflage the not-so-good features. Useful and practical tips go a long way in enhancing your looks. Some of the practical tips are:

1. Foundation forms the base of the face makeup and is applied after the face has been cleansed and moisturized. Wait for a few moments for the moisturizer to be absorbed before applying the foundation. Use your fingertips or a damp sponge to dab small dots of the foundation on the forehead, nose, and cheek and chin area and blend well right into your hairline and jaw line.

2. Blending is the key to good makeup and cannot be stressed enough as proper blending will give a natural look to the face and not leave blotches here and there. Blot your face gently with tissue paper to absorb the excess foundation.

3. A concealer is a very versatile piece of cosmetic as it can hide pimples, scars, dark circles and blemishes on the face. Apply the concealer on the desired spot and spread it towards the edges and do not over-apply it as it will then look too obvious an attempt to hide some flaw.

4. Before putting on the eye shadow, apply a base of neutral color on the eyelids and do not try to match the eye shadow with your outfit. The eye shadow should suit your skin color. Dab the eye shadow on the entire length of the eye lid starting from the inside and moving outwards. 2 or 3 colors of eye shadow can be used together but some expert blending is required to give a smooth look. Stick to lighter or neutral colors for day wear but for the evenings, experiment with brighter, bolder colors or the smoky, smoldering look.

5. The eyeliner should be drawn as close to the lash line as possible to give the impression of thicker eyelashes. Although black is the favorite color for the eyeliner, blue, brown or navy blue can look equally stunning. In fact, the color of your eyes can be brought out magnificently by using the right eyeliner.

6. Mascara can literally be termed the `magic wand` as it can be used to coat the most meager of eyelashes to give the effect of full, lush eyelashes. Wait for the first coat to dry before applying the next coat and then using a mascara comb, run it through the eyelashes to shake off the excess mascara. An eyelash curler is also an invaluable cosmetic aid but the curling should be done before the applying the mascara.

7. Chapped lips should be treated with a lip balm before applying lipstick. A thin base of foundation on the lips will allow the correct tone of the lipstick to show. Lips can be first outlined with a lip liner which is slightly darker than the lipstick color but of the same tone and then the lips can be filled in with the lipstick with a lip brush. The shape of the lips can be corrected with the help of the lip liner. Using a lip brush helps give an even coating of color to the lips. A lip gloss on the middle of the lips will give a fuller look to the lips.

8. The blusher should be chosen according to one`s skin tone. If using powder blusher, put some on the brush and shake off the excess powder before the application. Smile while applying the blusher and put it on with upward strokes towards the ears. Again, blending is the key to perfect application and for contouring the face.

So, the right face makeup can enhance any woman`s natural looks even if she is not Helen of Troy!

Best questions to ask yourself when you’re looking for your true passion because you seek happiness in life or there may be a gap that you need to fill there are many quesions you need to ask yourself.

Carefully considering these questions will help you learn things about yourself that will lead to greater happiness and passions.

Get a note pad and take notes as you answer these questions.

Do you know what really inspires and engages you?

At first it may be a little difficult to answer.  You may find the answer when you’ve finished answering the other questions. So what are the things that you love to do?  What gets you excited, can’t wait to get up each morning to work on this project?

If you knew  without a doubt that you would succeed, what would you do? Have you always had a secret desire to succeed as an artist, or musican, but didn’t have the self esteem to try?

What would your choice be if you found yourself in a position to start over? If you have you found yourself in a situation that is unsavory to you,would you take advantage of the new beginning?

Many senior women aren’t quite sure how to fill their days in a productive way.  Retirement requires new adjustments regarding time commitments and setting new goals.

Remember that your capabilites are very important when thinking about taking your dreams and making something of them.  Think about your  talents and experiences that have been fullfilling and made you happy..  Use these experiences to help make your dreams come true. This knowledge will help you build the confidence you need to be successful.

One of the best things to help you overcome any regrets or self doubt is to develop a keen sense of curiosity and creativity. Making your mind active and curious lets you see things at a different angle. When you are curious and working the mind you are making it stronger.

Organic cosmetics and how they boast you, the senior woman’s self esteem.

As we grow older, our skin changes, a big deal for me you may say. Its a big deal if we feel our cosmetics accentuate the wrinkles and lines in our face and on our arms and hands.

Let’s discuss ways to minimize these changes, this will allow us to feel more self confident inourappearance, here are some suggestions:

The first thing we should do is cleanse.  If we have sensitive skin, this can be a problem. Select a gentle plant based cleanser, use it with a soft facial cloth, gently messaging away old makeup, oil and dirt that has accumulated during the day. Follow up with a warm and cool rinse.  Now we are ready for the next step.

Exfoliants deep cleanse, and should be gentle also.  There are many different types with each one sloughing off dead skin cells to rejuvenate and reveal soft, smooth skin. These generally should not be used each day.

Facial toner is our friend. Just smooth on a facial toner to tighten and tone pores. Even if you don’t apply foundation, by now the skin’s appearance is taunt, smoothing out wrinkles that appear around the lips, under the cheeks and around the eyes. (A word about the eye area, this is probably the most sensitive part of the face.  Use a very gentle touch here.) This alone allows us to feel more confident.

Lips, our smile, the expression that others read above our actions. Choose a lipstick that softens  lips while adding color. It should be non-toxic, as lipstick is absorbed by the body. It should smooth on easily and give a full coat of color. Lip Gloss is also available, adding a pop of shimmer.  Lip gloss is pretty used alone, giving the natural look.

This information and suggestions are given to inspire you to look your best, which helps boast your self esteem.  There is a saying that “beauty is only skin deep”, but it’s a good start to feeling good about ourselves.

Are you a worrier?  It has been my experience that it comes and goes with what is happening in my life.  I’ve found that using affirmations is one way to lift my spirits and stop the worrying.

Here is what Michael L Miller, PhD has to say in his article “Affirmations for Worriers”.

An affirmation is simply any positive statement that you say to yourself. Repeating these statements can help facilitate reprogramming your brain away from automatically going to and accepting negative thoughts. Affirmations are something that you use when you aren’t especially anxious. Coping statements can be very similar, but are used more when you are especially anxious.

Read through the list below and see if any seem to be a good fit or even where you would like to get to. If saying “I’m safe” is something you can’t believe at this time, change the statement to “I’m working toward accepting the reality that I’m safe.” Better yet, for all of these statements, change the wording that may better fit YOU! Better still, write your own!

There are a number of ways to practice affirmations. Practice is the key. The more you practice, whether writing them out, saying them to yourself or out loud, the more you will benefit. Best to practice throughout the day.

-I am safe
-I let go of my “What If” thoughts.
-I find it easier and easier to let go of my “What Ifs.”
-I accept that Life = Uncertainty.
-I find it easier and easier to breath through my anxious feelings.
-I let go of all the things of which I have no control.
-I fear not.
-I find it easier and easier to let go of the worries that come to my mind
-My symptoms are nothing more than a false alarm.
-I refuse to let finances (or whatever…) determine my state of mind.
-I trust in God. (If you don’t, ignore this one)

This is only a starting point. Please tailor the words to be a better fit for you. Even better if you can write your own affirmations.
